Jun 8th, 2008 Brother's mother and father-in-law... UGH!When my older brother and his wife were going to get married, she converted to Judaism. Her mom was Christian and her father a Messianic Jew. They then had 3 kids who they were raising to be Jewish. As most of you know, my brother's wife left him with their 3 daughters. My brother then died almost suddenly from pancreatic cancer. The girls were automatically left with their maternal grandparents as if no one else is chosen, that is generally who the courts will give custody to. Well, my brother's mother and father-in-law never let me, my younger brother or my mother see the girls. I only got to see them about 2 weeks ago and that was because all of them were sick and they couldn't go to school and their grandparents couldn't throw the youngest one into daycare again. (Their grandparents are still fairly young and working still). They all had high fevers and so it was my job to take care of them... at one point my niece, Amit, who is 5 stopped breathing. Freaked me out..... anyway..... when I see them the two oldest always tell me that they want to come visit me more. They ask why I don't ever want to see them... I told them that I do want to, but that their grandparents won't let me. They say that their grandparents are mean to them and that they don't like them... its really sad, but I don't know what to do about it. They also miss my mother because they never get to see her anymore. If she was allowed to see them, she would be in Los Angeles all the time to do so. So... today I get a letter in the mail. The letter is from them. Strange, because they only live in Riverside and the could just call me. It says that I am invited to these girls' baptism. I was completely pissed off. First of all, they don't have the decency to ever call me but instead just sent a letter. Secondly, I have to attend a church service for this. I think its just a bit tacky to invite a JEW to a BAPTISM AT A CATHOLIC CHURCH. Third of all, they are not respecting my brother or their daughter's (then again, who really cares about that bitch) wishes. They want the girls raised Jewish. Now, I know that their grandparents are raising them and have every right to raise them whatever religion they want to... but come on. They don't have to teach them Judaism, but now they're completely confused because they have to change everything they were taught. They're young, they don't understand. One day they're waiting for the messiah and the next day he came to earth and died 2000 years ago! There's more to it, but its just all upsetting. This Journal Entry's Comment Board (6 comments)
