Breastfeeding at 8-years-old

Today during my lunchbreak, I was with a bunch of the other OB/GYN residents, sub-specialties ranging. One of the other residents mentioned this video that they saw on youtube about a mother breastfeeding her child until she is about 8.

I understand, yes, raises IQ, but I would imagine that it would keep the child in an infant-like state. Breastfeeding isn't bad or dirty at any age, but at 8... its too old, in my opinion. Almost preventing the child from moving past their infanthood.

I think its fairly normal for girls of that age to have an interest in breasts, as they don't have them themselves yet. However, I think that this is almost... idolizing. It doesn't seem quite right.. :/

I remember hearing a story like this awhile back...a mom was still breastfeeding her son at 7 and that b/c of it, he wasn't developing normally. He was still in a 'baby' mindset.

Sorry...those are just for food until you start to get teeth...and then desert when you learn to have *******...this is not really right...I think it is unnatural, and, I think that she may be a lesbian when she grows up-I am just saying...this woman is not right.

Yes, baby mindset. That's the reaction I would expect. This isn't common, but it would make sense that they just wouldn't be able to grow up. I don't want to be quick to say its wrong, but first of all, I think its just too old, and then as I said... the EXTREME fascination with the breasts is too far... interest, okay, desire to have them herself, also normal. Not this.

it makes me angry, because I think this is more about "mommy" than "baby"...so, if a thirteen year old that wants to breast feed...is that acceptable? No, of course not. I think she is, pretty sick if you ask me.

*shrug* I was breast fed until my first pubic hair... so like 6 months ago. Seems perfectly normal to me. Yep.

Yeah, I don't think that is okay, just because it would be damaging to the child. Yes, there is a comfort with it, but its for the mother and baby to bond, and as babies can't eat solid food, that was the purpose.

I saw this on YouTube before,I thought it was pretty strange.I want my kids off the breast as soon as they are old enough for solid foods.
